While Ranking a Website, Google takes into consideration more than 200 factors. The fact is that when a page is linked to numerous websites, this increases the page’s chances to rank better within the search engine results. Ranking has nothing to do with number of pages in a particular website. Still, there is a misconception in the online world, especially amongst SEO Webmasters that larger the number of pages to your website better are your chances to rank higher.To clear the air, head of the Web spam team at Google ‘Matt Cutts’ has released a video on 28TH of Oct in Google Webmaster Help YouTube Channel called “Does a site rank better if it has a lot of indexed pages?”. Through this video matt wanted people to know that “Having more pages in a website, does not guarantee your rankings”.
What Matts said exactly is that “I wouldn’t assume that just because you have a large number of indexed pages that you automatically get a high-ranking. That’s not the case.”
In the Video he advises people that if they have many pages in their website. This gives them an opportunity to present varied relevant contents and attain rankings for their “Keywords.” In addition, he also pointed out that, you could improve your PageRank and overall linking with such quality pages. Since, he’s also part of the Google’s Search Quality team; he ensure that creating more pages for your website for Rankings may not prove to be beneficial.
