Facebook’s New Year Privacy Policies and Upgrades


Today, as a user you are given total control on what you want to see and how you want to be portrayed on the web through your Facebook profile.  With the cutthroat competition that it faces from Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus, LinkedIn etc; Facebook clearly wants to leave no stone unturned to reach out to its users.

With this intention on November 25, Facebook released its updated privacy policies. There have been mixed reactions from users across the world. These updates will come into effect from 1st January 2015.

Since it is a 2000+ words update, we want to make things simpler for you. We will be providing the readers with important highlights from this recent privacy policy update. So here we go:

Interactive Privacy Basics : This is one of the most interesting features from the update. It offers users an interactive way to understand the basic Facebook privacy policies on posting, status updates and sharing etc.

Facebook Transactions : They are also working on technology that will allow transactions to be more secure and convenient.

The Buy Button : Another addition to these policies revolves around the “Buy Button”. Facebook is quite excited about this button that will allow users to directly make a purchase.

Local and interest based News feeds : Facebook is updating its algorithm to deliver more localized and customized content based on “Where you are” and “What your interests are”.  For example: if you are in Mumbai and you love R&B Music, it will show you updates on R&B performances in Mumbai. You can also disable it, if you don’t prefer such a feature.

Control your Ads : You are offered better control on the ads you want see on your profile.
